10% of Texans Wanted

I found a good blog today, messing around and trying to find out how to pay an automated red light ticket online. It's called Grits for Breakfast - and man, I can' t believe the way this guy is doing things. I thought, through all the conservatism and republicanism that nobody was actually doing this kind of research and activism.

The link above will take you to the Grits for Breakfast entry where it explains about the Driver Responsibility Surcharge Program, and how its ridiculous fees and "one chance" approach is creating criminals every day. I say "criminals", but I don't really mean that.... these are economic crimes - crimes of indigence. Because people cannot pay the exorbitant fees associated with the surcharges, they are getting their licenses revoked, and they have to make a choice whether to not drive, or take a chance to go to work, school, etc. I like the author's point of view that, "When push comes to shove, they'll take the risk. Therefore, it is unenforceable..." <-- I kinda paraphrased, but you get the gist... unenforceable.

It's things like this that make people poor and angry - and the reason why a lot of us are in trouble. I'm not saying that people are saints, but this is the kind of thing that makes people look for a "second job", if you get my drift.
